The Queen’s Gambit is the band’s first album and it’s more folk-based with compositions that tend to be about personal tales. The core band for this record is Martin Vengadesan on vocals/acoustic guitar/keyboards, Hisham Zulkifli on bass and Andrew Sagayam on drums. Highlights include the politically-driven Affirmative which is a comment on race relations in Malaysia. The reggae-ish Written In Water is a tale of Malaysia’s Reformasi while Song For An Abused Child is one of the band’s most moving pieces. The closing song Across The Moors is an epic that used harpischord, violin, viola and classical guitar to spin a tale.
